Although I've started with the pictures below - these were taken at the end of our walk - but hey ...!
If you did walk into Seend village via Rusty Lane Swing Bridge you would have seen a sign pinned to a tree which states PRIVATE WOODLAND - REMOVING ANYTHING FROM THESE WOODLANDS MAY RESULT IN PROSECTUTION !!
However, we actually walked from the other direction and had to smile at the humour in these 'other' notices ...
... but on seeing the last one (about prosecution) I think that the 'someone with the sense of humour' may also have been taking the p**s!
mmmm..... free range children ....... yummy!
Sells Green Swing Bridge from the top of the hill on our walk into Seend Village ...
... lovely view!
Lovely old large terraced houses too - the middle one was the old surgery and the end one the old post office - and that's George and Lucy waiting patiently bored while I stand in the middle of the busy road taking pictures!
Could be an exotic garden behind the high wall in the lane leading to ...
Seend Church of the Holy Cross ...
... which has a sundial on the side ...
... and looks as lovely from the back as from the front ...
... and from where you can see for miles and miles
The inside reminded me of the parish church that I used to attend as a child which was bigger but not half so grand ...
... full of wonderful chandeliers ...
... and candlesticks.
The millennium window shows the history of the area - canal, farming, wool and weaving
George and Lucy also fascinated by the surroundings
The 'squint' allows those parishioners sitting in the side aisle to see the minister taking mass
Nice fretted windows and bosses on the roof supports
Simple but elegant arches and rich stained glass
They're obviously proud of their heritage - makes a change from some villages that seem to turn their backs to the canals that pass through
Back down the towpath where recent dredging and banks have been repaired
After eating lunch and reversing for water we left Sells Green visitor moorings and head for the first of the two swing bridges to do today ...
... Leaving lock 20 under the weeping willow ...
... and hovering mid-chanel whilst waiting for this boat to leave lock 19 ...
... where our grandaughter Lucy is ready and able with the windlass to let us down the lock ...
... she certainly puts her back into it!
Lucy doing the gardening to enable us to step off the front in our mooring below Seend Lock 18.
We're off to the pub (Barge Inn) for dinner tonight, so - no cooking to do - magic!
