The day before we left Bristol - ghostly!

Tuesday 30th August - before we leave Bristol tomorrow we need to pump out the waste and fill the store cupboards and in light of my recent Tesco debacles we put on our rucksacks and set out, we'd do the trip by ferry ...
... first crossing the river on the SS Gt Britain ferry and then on DSCN2706.JPG to Hotwells  ...
... where the harbour master is situated; we collected a token for the pump out and checked on the tidal conditions for tomorrow
We took another ferry into town - Junction Lock gates were open and the bridge was taking the traffic
MV Pride of Bristol from the river
and into the city centre at St Augustine's Reach ...
... where there are lots of water features which children (and some adults) were cooling their feet!
Not taken from the river of course - George saw this as he walked into town later in the day - very nice!
To end our fantastic stay in Bristol we treated ourselves to another scrumptious meal at The Pump House and afterwards took a walk ...
... towards Cumberland Basin - we noticed that Junction Lock was closed ...
... and we continued on to look at the Clifton Suspension Bridge all lit up.
As we walked we noticed that the sea locks were open and the lock keeper was out on the jetty - something must be happening, so we waited, and waited, and then decided to turn and walk back the way we'd come.  Both in quiet thought I said to George it's odd that the gates are open there must be something coming ....
.... and we turned around and saw this silent ghostly image coming towards us ....
... and what a sight it was too ..
... as we watched her pass us into Cumberland Basin and ..
... watched Plimsol Bridge close .
We decided to walk back to the pub, sit outside with (another) glass of red stuff hoping to see SS Matthew come through junction lock, but it didn't happen; Merchant Road Bridge did not open and the lock gates remained closed.  After half an hour or so we were getting cold and decided to call it a day - in the morning we saw that the galleon was back at its dock.
