Cassiobury to Denham Deep - Grand Union Canal

Before setting off from Cassiobury George and I with Molly walked through Cassiobury Park - it is easily the loveliest parkland that we've ever seen.
 A lovely Oak tree
My intention on this posting was to compare these pictures to the ones I took on our previous visit in September 09 (a different time of day and a different season of course) but unfortunately I can't find the correct file - really disappointed!
Blue and white bluebells nestle under the Oak tree
I think this is a Yew ??
A lovely contrast of colours
close ups of the blossom ...
... and the pink too.
A few daffodils remain in flower
wow - don't you just love the spring?
Magnolias
I call these magnolias 'pocket handkerchief' as they look as if they could be just showing from a gentlemans top pocket of his suit!
... and a closer view too!
A venerable old Oak
the candelabras are appearing on the horse chestnut
I wondered if the 'other' branch of this tree was still there on the photo that I now can't find!
Waterfall from the canal above
water falling!
First view of a houseboat community so far.
Sharing the locks with Sue and Vic we reached Copper Mill Lock just after 7pm - a quick wash and brush up and we were off to the Coy Carp for a meal with Sue and Richard; it was nice to meet you both.
Whilst waiting to up sticks the following day (19th April) it was interesting to watch these two Coots on the nest.
No Problem at her mooring at Copper Mill.
No Problem being refueled by working NB Baron immediately below Widewater Lock gates.
A view of the River Colne as Rock 'n' Roll waits for No Problem to catch us up at Denham Deep...
... and here she comes - full to the gunwalls!
We moored up for the evening just below the lock and enjoyed a great BBQ together. Yet another great day!

  1. Gorgeous pictures Carol! They've done my heart good. We are having the coldest spring in recorded history here in Washington state. It's snowed off and on for the last two weeks. It was 27F Monday morning. My daffodils fainted! Thank you for sharing spring with us.
    :)
