Rushey Weir ...
... is being updated ...
... and it’s costing nearly 3-million pounds!!
The towpath used to go over the weir but now ...
... it’s here - I quite like the green carpet way...
The weir is currently manual - if you click on the picture to enlarge you’ll see the sluice handles which are pulled up to allow water through and closed when necessary. At the moment for H&S reasons the lock-keeper is not allowed on the weir so the water flows unheeded!
This should be the lock-keepers cottage but it has been ‘let out’ for many years.
I do like the topiary frog though!
We continued to walk round Rushey Lock ...
... and into the buttercup filled field ...
... and into this lovely meadow ...
... the intrepid explorers battle through the vegetation ...
... to the next obstacle - a tree has fallen across the bridge
... Meg is wondering if Geoff will manage to fight his way through ...
... and George looks on getting some tips - or not as the case may be!
... and back to the lock keepers garden ...
... where we stopped for an interesting chat with the lock keeper who works until 7pm during the ’summer’ months ...
... and the floral displays are doing well despite all the rain ...
... and shortly after arriving back at the boats ... the cows come to give us the once over!
