An Enterprising weekend ...

We've time to spare here at Gailey ...
... where working boat Monarch and her butty Grimsby is currently moored ...
so on Friday we hired a car from the Cannock office of Enterprise - top of the range Saab 93 turbo diesel estate - very nice - and toddled off to see our son Mark and his family and enjoy a tasty BBQ.
Saturday was time for a bit of retail therapy - can you guess from the picture above where we are?
This may help you .... but if it doesn't ...
 ... this will!
Sunday saw us approaching the M54 - and what's this?
We saw a few more vintage cars on the way ...
... and some lovely scenery in the sunshine ...
... into Wales - through Powys ...

... and into Meirionnydd in Gwynedd ...
... where the scenery is out of this world ...

 Approaching the Bwlch ...
 top o'the world
 deep valleys
 rugged terrain ...
... and down the other side

A quick stop in Eldon Square ...
 Dolgellau for the 'hole-in-the-wall'
... past our old house - Rose Cottage, Friog ...
... and straight down to Fairbourne beach where the steam train ...
... was about to enter the tunnel as we arrived ...
... down to the point - where the Mawddach Estuary winds its way from the sea through the hills ...
... and you can see Cadar Idris from the beach ...
... and Barmouth across the estuary ...
... the beach is crowded today!
We wouldn't dream of going out in that wind - would we!
 Molly!
'Annie' the Barmouth Ferry collects passengers from the train terminus at Fairbourne point and ferries them over the estuary to Barmouth - a great way to travel!
 Cadar Idris ...
... again!
 Barmouth harbour.
We then went to see the best neighbours in the world - Bill and Marg; Bill is a carpenter and he's made us a radiator cover for the extra radiator that George fitted last winter (he also made me this)
On the way home we went by the Toll Bridge at the George III, Penmaenpool ...
... and looked towards the sea from the bridge.

Approaching those hills again with the cover in the back now ...
... and it's now fitted - like a glove - very smart indeed. Thanks Bill.
Yesterday saw us again in Wales, this time in Wrexham (St Giles Parish Church here in the photo).
I had an appointment to keep which didn't turn out quite as I expected and I'll have to return at a later date - but never mind it was another sunny day, albeit with a chilly wind and a nice trip out.
George has returned the car this morning and later our daughter-in-law Ange will be bringing Lucy and Ed for dinner after school.
As I write this posting the wind has risen, the sky has darkened and I can hear thunder - we're surely in for a big storm!

  1. I think Enterprise should give us commission....
The turned "pot" looks fantastic, although I suppose it should be called a "wood"?

  2. Wales is magnificent--what great pictures Carol. Oh! some day I'll get there too. As for the plant you cannot identify--I look forward to seeing it and sleuthing it out!
    Hugs to you both,
