We left our mooring above Knotts Bridge on the Oxford Canal on Tuesday morning ...
... and continued to meander around the bends south through Fenny Compton ...
... and into the very narrow Fenny Compton Tunnel where (of course) we met an oncoming boat!
Some interesting facts about the ‘tunnel’ and that iron bridge here.
The tunnel was built in two parts - this is the ‘second’ part where we caught up with Seyella waiting in the bushes! Another oncoming boat ...
... which neatly passes safely by us both.
This would have been bridge 140 - a railway bridge ...
... which in its time would have been an impressive sight with its tall arches.
Mags steering around another sharp bend towards the first of many lift bridges ...
... the cattle on the pasture completely unconcerned ...
... and she’s through, most of these bridges in this area are left in the open position.
Looks interesting - where does it go? ... Nowhere!
Fuel boat Gosty Hill in her mooring, but sadly no longer trading.
Claydon Lock 18 at 12:45 ...
... cows are so curious!
Waiting for an upcoming boat at lock 19 and George taking a breather as I descend Claydon Bottom Lock (21)
Past Clattercote Wharf
Waiting for Elkington’s Lock to be ready ...
... where this young family is taking in the sun’s warm rays ...
... and into Varney’s Lock (23) - notice the BW emblem on the sign is the current one ...
Working boats Bedworth and Chine moored above ...
... Broadmoor Lock - notice now the ‘new' Canal & River Trust logo.
We pulled over to moor for the night about a mile or so past the lock at about 2:45 and very soon after out came the BBQ again. We were joined in this ‘meat-fest’ by Mags and Geoff after which we watched A Good Year starring Russell Crowe - a must watch, good feel factor comedy!
Yes, it was - another great day!
